Paul Manafort Pleads “Not Guilty” To Federal Charges In Mueller Probe – Placed Under House Arrest

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has screeched the political world to a halt with indictments of former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort and business partner Rick Gates on Monday.

Amid White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ daily briefing, attorneys for Manafort and Gates entered pleas of “not guilty” to all charges for their clients. Both men have been placed under house arrest.

“Paul Manafort enters a not guilty plea in court, the former Trump campaign manager is facing 12 counts in federal indictment,” tweeted Alexandra Limon, a Washington Correspondent for Nexstar Media Group.

CNBC reports:

The two men [Manafort and Gates] pleaded not guilty to all charges during a court appearance later Monday.

In a statement, Special Counsel’s Office spokesman Peter Carr said the indictment “contains 12 counts: conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign [government], false and misleading [foreign lobbying disclosures], false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts. The case was unsealed today after the defendants were permitted to surrender themselves to the custody of the FBI.”

Multiple law enforcement sources also told NBC News there was a statute of limitations issue in play that may have helped drive the timing of the indictments, which were handed down Friday. A spokesman for Manafort did not immediately respond Monday to a request for comment from CNBC.
